EAT: La Platea Tapas Tuesday, Avocado Tree Opens in SKP, Hatsune Yosenabe

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

La Platea Tuesday tapas nights

For one of the best food deals available in Beijing right now, head to La Platea on Tuesday evenings for tapas night, when all tapas are just RMB 10 each. There's no limit to the amount you can order, all you have to do is purchase an alcoholic drink (and since wine, beer, and spritzes are buy-one-get-one-free before 7pm, we're sure you can manage that). Be sure to get the ham and cheese croquettes and the homemade chorizo sausage. Also, it's best to visit sooner rather than later — this deal definitely won't be available forever.

Hatsune monthly special: Wagyu beef yosenabe

Hatsune's first limited-edition signature dish of 2022 is a belly-warming yosenabe, a kind of "anything goes" mixed hotpot — yose comes from the verb yoseru, which means gather or collect. The dish features ultra-premium Australian M9 Wagyu beef (check out that marbling in the pic above) simmered in a dashi broth, stewed together with assorted vegetables, and then served in a clay pot. The dish is available at most Hatsune branches until Jan 31.

Avocado Tree opens in SKP

Avocado Tree has just opened a new branch — their 11th in Beijing! — on the B1 level of SKP next to the food court. We've always been big fans of Avocado Tree (the tofu burrito bowl is the perfect healthy lunch) and we're happy to see another Beijing-born chain succeeding like this.

La Medina Saturday brunch buffet

If you fancy something different from the usual hotel brunches, head over to North African restaurant La Medina (on Liangmahe Nanlu just behind the Australian embassy) on Saturdays for an all-you-can-eat buffet of Mediterranean, North African, and Middle Eastern treats priced at RMB 158. Expect dishes like shakshuka, hummus and falafel, Tunisian-style couscous, and more. The brunch runs from 11.30am-3pm.
