Free Scarves for Expats at D.I.S

Most emerging local brands target the increasingly influential Chinese consumer, not us humble expats. And when they do come after us, they tend to meet with limited success. Not the case with Dutch Items Shanghai, a Shanghai-based boutique designed by and for expat women. D.I.S opened its first shop in 2007, but already has four branches and counting – the latest of which is in Hong Kong. None in Beijing yet, but thanks to their recently launched web shop, Beijingers now have ready access to their high-quality clothing and accessories as well.

According to their PR manager, both D.I.S.’s in-house collection and imported Dutch brands (which include Stills, Ruby Brown, Jans Design and Maluo) abide by the following philosophy: “Clothing should emphasize and enhance a women’s [sic] beauty regardless of her size, making a woman feel more appealing and self-confident.” In fact, each garment is tested on international models from both sides of the sizing spectrum (EU sizes 38 and 44) to ensure the most flattering and comfortable fit. D.I.S.’s consistency throughout the years has earned them a loyal customer base made up primarily of expats, with a growing Chinese clientele (they recently added size XXXS to accommodate the latter group).

And now, for the entire month of March, readers of the Beijinger can get a free scarf (pictured above) with every purchase of RMB 250 or more on www.disshanghai.com. Just place your order as per usual, then send an email to webshop@disshanghai.com with the subject, “the Beijinger’s promotion.” Don’t forget to include the order number in the body of the email!
