Beijing Ready for Flood Season, Beijingkids' Father's Day Pool Party

Beijing’s urban development agency is hard at work preparing for a wet summer. It appears they've received some sort of insider info from mother nature, because they're making some serious improvements, with water pumps and sandbags being added to subway tunnels and roads around the city. Nobody wants a repeat of the 2012 summer floods.

Subway stations that are currently under construction will also take the necessary precautions, including suspending all drilling during days with heavy rain, and regular check-ups for pumps placed in subway stations to make sure they can handle the excess rainwater.

During the next three months, there will also be more preparations in the downtown area, Especially for roads and underpasses, as these areas are more likely to flood during torrential downpours. China Daily reports that since this flooding two years ago, flood control capacity has been expanded by 50 percent.

After the flash flood of July 21, 2012, which caused the deaths of 79 people, RMB 10 billion in property damages, and 500 flight cancellations, the government isn't taking any chances. It's better to have it and not need it, than ... well,  you know.

Talking about water, if you're looking for something fun to do this Father's Day, make sure to drop by the beijingkids 2014 Pool Party at the Radisson Blu Garden Hotel. In collaboration with Jiade Montessori Bilingual Kindergarten, there will be all you can eat barbecue, plenty of activities for your little ones, and lots of fun libations for mum and dad.
