Gung Ho, Patagonia Take Second Stab at Earth Day Festival April 22

Two-time reigning Beijinger Pizza Cup champions Gung Ho Pizza, Patagonia, C Nature, and One Percent for the Planet will present the first annual Beijing Earth Day Festival beginning April 20, a year after a similar event was cancelled.

This year's festival is actually a series of events held between April 20-23. The first, an installment of the occasional Bite Size Branding series backed by Gung Ho and Plastered 8 T-shirts, features Martin Barnes of mobility charity Wheels Plus Wings, along with Anna Calsin of Bethel China and Gung Ho Marketing Ninja Rich Akers. That event takes place April 20 at 7.30pm at Gung Ho's Sanlitun location.

The main event happens on April 22 at Sanlitun SOHO, featuring a green market and charity auction, along with kids' events, presentations, film screenings, and live music. Gung Ho promises more details on that to come before the event. That's from 4-10pm.

Beijing Hikers will be leading a Great Wall clean-up at the Jiankou section, with an 8.30am departure on April 23 from a city center location. Gung Ho will provide pizza and beer to all those who give up their Saturday, for a cleaner, tidier wall.

The 2015 festival was cancelled after local officials denied permission for it to take place, one of a slew of events that were axed last spring, but the Gung Ho folks are expecting this one to go forward as planned.

"We've definitely worked a lot more closely with the wuye (property management) and local police, and be more aware of our potential impact on the area. One thing we're excited to announce is that even though we're being more careful with the scope of the main festival, we've been able to expand the entire festival itself to include more events. Just three this time, but we've already had feelers from people hoping to get onbiard next year," Akers told the Beijinger via instant message.
