Healthy Food and CrossFit Combine at Glo Kitchen, Guanghua Lu Soho

While retaining the balance between professional work and working out may be a challenge, Glo Kitchen and Fitness aims to make it slightly easier, and to make CrossFit more accessible to everyone.

As such, the CrossFit box is right in the basement from the kitchen, making for easy work outs before or after breakfast, lunch, or dinner, especially for Guanghua Lu residents or suits. The space is cool and big, and CrossFit sessions are restricted to ten participants, allowing from maximum attention from instructors. You can also come down here and work out anytime without a class as a member.

As for their menu, think healthy, fresh, and green. There are plenty of salads, wraps, sandwiches, and hot energy bowls made using wholesome ingredients. We went for the super greens TexMex salad (RMB 38 for regular, RMB 45 for large) which was a mix of fresh greens and had a slight kick in its dressing.

The same goes for the black garlic tuna hot energy bowl (RMB 52), which came with an additional side salad of marinated beet and greens. The bowl was presented as a careful arrangement of tuna, garlic, baba ganoush, tomato, mushrooms, almonds, barley, quinoa, and red rice, and a black garlic caesar dressing, so you can either eat the ingredients separately, or mix as per your preference.

And just because the ingredients are healthy, doesn't mean that the food has to taste boring, as is often the case. Instead, healthier ingredients replace usual ingredients, while keeping flavors fresh and dishes filling. An example is the Thai chicken wrap (RMB 52) which uses an activated charcoal wrap, which has been argued to be beneficial to the intestines

A particular favorite though comes from the breakfast menu: yeast risen buckwheat waffles (RMB 38), for which you can choose your own topping from three options. There is fig jam and cottage cheese (which by the way, is made in-house), smoked salmon and turmeric steeped egg with capers and greek yoghurt, or fermented honey and seasonal fruits.

We went with the smoked salmon, and never looked back. Just look at those waffles. Just kidding, we're sure the other options are delicious too, but we really enjoyed the smoked salmon option. You should try it, and with Glo's offerings already available on Sherpa's there's no reason not to give it a go even if you can't make it to Guanghua Lu.
