Hollywood Films Coming to Beijing Screens in November

A few months ago we said that it was quite likely film regulators would open the flood-gates for more foreign films to flow into China to make up for flagging box office numbers.

Well, the floodgates are well and truly open now - to the extent that the upcoming schedule for November looks more or less like what you’d find if you were living in Hong Kong.

In September, we looked into our crystal ball to try and predict what those films might be. Of the six films we singled out, five have now been given release dates.

Trolls (魔发精灵) is already out at cinemas, as is Inferno (但丁密码), and The BFG (圆梦巨人). The other two we predicted correctly – Moana (海洋奇缘) and Doctor Strange (奇异博士) are on their way, but we’re still waiting on Kingsman: The Golden Circle (王牌特工:黄金圈).

Here’s a list of some of the latest Hollywood movies for you to mark into your diary:

Max Steel (钢铁骑士)
November 1
2D
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 0 percent
Critics' Consensus: No consensus yet.

Doctor Strange (奇异博士)
November 4
3D/IMAX3D/CFGS (China Film Giant Screen)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90 percent
Critics' Consensus: Doctor Strange artfully balances its outré source material against the blockbuster constraints of the MCU, delivering a thoroughly entertaining superhero origin story in the bargain.

Keeping Up with the Joneses (邻家大贱谍)
November 8
2D
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 21 percent
Critics' Consensus: Keeping Up with the Joneses squanders a decent premise – and a talented cast full of funny people – on a witless and largely laugh-free suburban spy adventure.

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (比利·林恩的中场战事)
November 11
3D
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 47 percent
Critics Consensus: No consensus yet.

Deepwater Horizon (深海浩劫)
November 15
2D
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 83 percent
Critics Consensus: Deepwater Horizon makes effective use of its titular man-made disaster to deliver an uncommonly serious – yet still suitably gripping – action thriller.

Allied (间谍同盟)

Critics Consensus: No consensus yet.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (神奇动物在哪里)
