Wishing for a Higher AQI?: Jing-A Lifts Cap on Airpocalypse IPA Discount

It's not often we wish for higher AQI but beer (specifically, IPA) fans might be when they hear this piece of news: In the wake of Beijing's first ever red alert for incoming air pollution, Jing-A Brewing have lifted the cap on the discount system for their Airpocalypse Double IPA until the end of the year. That means 20 percent off at 200 AQI and an extra 10 percent off for every additional 100 points the AQI goes up (based on the US Embassy's readings) in other words, free beer if the AQI passes 1,000. Assuming we haven't all dropped dead by that point of course.

In Jing-A's own words, the Airpocalypse IPA is their "hazy, unfiltered tribute to the city we know and love and to the people who, whether it’s a blue-sky day or a no-sky day, make it so great. Enjoy it indoors, with windows shut, and revel in an ABV and IBU that are truly ‘beyond index’." At 8.8 percent ABV, a couple of pints of this and you'll probably forget all about the bad air.

The brew created quite a stir on the web when it was released last year, with even international sites like Wall Street Journal, The Week, and First We Feast picking up the story.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the Jing-A Brewing taproom is fully equipped with air filters, natch.
